Netflix has released another trailer for Spriggan, the forthcoming sci-fi action series from David Productions (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), announcing the show’s premiere in 2022. Initially announced in 2019 to produce this season, the Netflix original series may be the latest in many anime whose production continues to be delayed within the wake from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Kill la Kill) and compiled by Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100, Jujutsu Kaisen), Spriggan may be the latest anime adaptation of Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa’s 1989 manga series of the identical name.
Occur the waning many years of the Cold War, the manga follows the storyline of Yū Ominae, a higher school student who leads a dual existence like a “Spriggan,” a top-notch covert agent working in the behest from the clandestine ARCAM Corporation to recuperate effective ancient artifacts left out by an old civilization and stop them from falling in to the wrong hands.
David Productions’ adaptation will feature character designs by Shuhei Handa (Little Witch Academia), who also can serve as chief animation director around the series, together with CG direction by Norihito Ishii (No Guns Existence).
Spriggan was formerly adapted right into a 1998 anime film directed by Hirotsugu Kawasaki (Venus Wars, Ghost within the Covering), supervised by Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo, and created by Studio 4°C.
David Productions’ Spriggan series is placed to premiere on Netflix in 2022.
