The isekai genre of anime is a form of escapism, imagining a fairly ordinary person ending up in an extraordinary new world of fantasy and adventure (and sometimes horror). Even western fiction does this sometimes, such as The Wizard of Oz, but the reverse is also possible; supernatural or magical beings keep finding their way to 21st century Earth.

If reverse isekai portals were opened up in every anime series not set on modern Earth, then a variety of characters would jump at the chance to step through those portals and visit, or even choose to stay here permanently. Perhaps the original character’s world is a terrible place, or the character simply found more to like in our world.
10 Sasha Blouse Would Enjoy The Outdoors And Plentiful Food (Attack On Titan)
Sasha Blouse is used to the great outdoors, and she isn’t afraid to face a Titan with a bow and arrow. She doesn’t exactly love fighting, though. Sasha would rather have a peaceful life out in the frontier and enjoy three hearty meals per day. She can get all that right here on Earth.
Despite rapid urbanization and industrialization, it’s still possible for rustic people like Sasha to make a living out in the wilderness, and Sasha would be delighted to see how easy it is to get fresh, plentiful food here. She’ll never miss a steak again.
9 Azazel Ameri Would Dive Deep Into The Shojo World Incognito (Welcome To Demon School, Iruma-Kun!)
Azazel Ameri is the student president at Babyls, and she is quite used to life in the demon realm. However, she’s gotten a wonderful sneak peek at Earth life through Iruma, and she absolutely loves shojo manga in particular. If she could visit real life Japan with Iruma, she’d do it.
Ameri would be in for the time of her life, being surrounded with shojo manga, DVDs, fancy anime figurines, cosplay outfits, wall scrolls, and far more, and she would return home loaded with all kinds of merchandise and fond memories.
8 Rangiku Matsumoto Thinks Human Life Is So Much Fun (Bleach)
When it comes to reverse isekai, Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto is in a similar position as Azazel Ameri. In fact, she got a chance to visit Karakura Town once, and she had a lot of fun there. Given the chance, she would do it again, and not even for the sake of a mission, which was the occasion for her last visit.

Rangiku is a professional Soul Reaper and knows her duty, but she can’t stand paperwork and she doesn’t find battle to be glorious or particularly empowering. She’d love a chance to end up in modern Japan for awhile, where she could savor the pop culture, traditions and technology of the modern world. Her Soul Reaper duties can wait for a few days. Or weeks. Or months.
7 Asami Sato Would Love Seeing Modern Technology (The Legend Of Korra)
Asami Sato is a brilliant engineer and tinkerer, and while Republic City is home to some of the world’s most advanced factories and workshops, Asami can do more. She would step right through a reverse isekai portal to the real world, and stare in awe at the technological wonders of the 2020s.
Asami thinks that biplanes and airships are cutting-edge tech, but she’s in for a treat when she stumbles upon the bullet trains, smartphones, supercomputers, and space shuttles of the modern world. All of this would be fascinating and inspiring — and a little intimidating, too.
6 Chrome Wants To See The World Senku Once Inhabited So Badly (Dr. Stone)
Chrome lives far in the future in the new Stone Age, and he only needs to go back in time to have a reverse isekai adventure of his own. Chrome is a naturally curious person, and he was an amateur scientist by the time he met Senku Ishigami one fateful day.

Senku explained to Chrome what sort of world the Earth used to be, and Chrome was astonished. He wanted so badly to see the early 21st century and its wonders, and given the chance, he would go find out. He might not even want to come back home.
5 Winry Rockbell Would Find Work Designing Prosthetic Limbs (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Although Winry Rockbell is fairly comfortable with her life as it is, she wouldn’t actually miss much if she ended up in today’s world, aside from friends and family. Winry’s world is like the early 20th century, so ending up in the early 21st century wouldn’t be too big a shock.
Winry loves machines, mainly automail limbs, and she would have a field day when she discovered the real world’s prosthetic limbs and other bodily enhancements. She would study hard to learn modern tech, then design some of the world’s finest robotic arms and legs to help people.
4 Ino Yamanaka Could Open A Florist Shop Or Nursery (Naruto)
Ino Yamanaka is a skilled kunoichi who isn’t afraid of a fight. In fact, she is an integral part of the Ino-Shika-Cho formation alongside Shikamaru Nara and Choji Akimichi. However, Ino doesn’t find fighting very fun, nor does she get any validation from it. For the most part, she’s more interested in peaceful pursuits.

Ino has a great passion for flowers, and in the real world, she could easily set up her own florist shop, then later move on to an entire plant nursery, complete with gardening tools such as fertilizer and the like. She could drum up plenty of business with her sharp wits and abundant charisma.
3 Bacchus Groh Would Become An MMA Fighter Or Martial Arts Instructor (Fairy Tail)
Nearly every major character in Fairy Tail is a wizard, though not all of them use elemental magic. Characters such as Bacchus Groh use their magical talents to enhance their physical abilities, so they would lose very little if they ended up in real life Earth. In fact, this is the perfect opportunity for Bacchus.
In the real world, there’s no shortage of martial arts enthusiasts of all kinds, and Bacchus would have a great time learning one style after another, from karate to Muay Thai and beyond. He could join any number of amateur or professional leagues to compete against the world’s best, then teach what he knows in his own class.
2 Judeau Could Practice Knife-Throwing In Peace And Explore New Places (Berserk)
The characters in Berserk live in a grim and violent medieval world, and most of them would vastly prefer the safety and comforts of the modern age. Among them is Judeau, a notable member of the Band of the Hawk. He doesn’t mind fighting, but he’s no glory hound.
Judeau would need time to get used to today’s real world, but once he did, he would find plenty of time to practice his hobbies, such as throwing knives. He could join or form a club and then try out some of the best-crafted knives of our world. And he’d certainly be safe from Griffith’s ambitions.
1 Thors Could Escape The Ravages Of Medieval Europe (Vinland Saga)
The mighty Viking warrior Thors does live in the real world, but not in the present time, so he would become a time-based isekai hero just like Senku Ishigami. Thors wanted to eke out a quiet living on the shores of Iceland to distance himself from the world of Vikings and war, but his past caught up to him.
If Thors could bring his family with him, he would jump at the chance to end up in modern Iceland instead, and once he got used to today’s technology and laws, he could finally find the peaceful life he always wanted. The Viking Age is long gone.
