WA Police clear Tasmania to play at WACA

The one-day cricket match between Western Australia and Tasmania at the WACA Ground is going ahead despite southern Tasmania going into a three-day lockdown.

Although the bulk of the Tasmanian squad flew into Perth from South Australia after a Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide, four players flew in directly from Tasmania.

It meant Tasmanian players Tom Andrews, Jake Doran, Riley Meredith, and Mitch Owen had to get clearance by WA Police before Friday’s match could go ahead.

Two match officials also flew in from Tasmania and needed clearance.

No players or officials visited the exposure sites in Tasmania.

WA Police have since given the players and officials clearance, with the match scheduled to begin at 1pm WST, an hour later than originally scheduled.

WA won the toss and elected to bat.

Nick Hobson has been named 12th man for WA, while Charlie Wakim will carry the drinks for Tasmania.

WA: Ashton Turner (capt), Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Cameron Green, Liam Guthrie, Matt Kelly, Shaun Marsh, Josh Philippe, D’Arcy Short, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman, Nick Hobson (12th man).

Tasmania: Jordan Silk (capt), Tom Andrews, Jake Doran, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Sam Rainbird, Peter Siddle, Beau Webster, Mac Wright, Charlie Wakim (12th man).
